We're always looking to get hold of and evaluate new video conferencing equipment, so that you can see what they're like with Nefsis and to give our honest, impartial thoughts and feedback.

  A large webcam with onboard encoder - primarily designed for thin-clients, but just as performant on regular PCs. Provides great detail and clarity in a wide-range of resolutions.

HD Webcam Group Review

Summer 2010 has brought with it a number of HD compatible webcams for use with video conferencing software. While some have been designed for use with certain applications such as Skype, they all work out-of-the-box with Nefsis albeit with varying levels of performance.

So we've deciced to throw together a special 'summer 2010' group review and chosen to look at a range of 4 High Definition webcams in particular:

  Compact, well built and offers an impressive wide field of view. Varying from standard 320x240 resolutions to 1280x720 HD. Suited to both one-on-one video calling and small groups of people around a table.

  Ideally suited to just one person 'in shot', it has a very narrow view, but offers a smooth and adequate image for the price. However, it appears to underperform when compared with some other cameras we've reviewed.

  Provides some crystal clear images with lots of detail. Coupled with a wide field of view, this camera should easily cope with a small group of people at a desk or around a small conference room table.

  A very consistent performer, albeit suffers slightly with focus hunting/tracking in certain conditions. Offers a good level of detail and a good, wide field of view.
